New Rajasthan Gujarat Highway

Udaipur, March 24, 2025 - Tourists and locals will soon be able to travel directly between Rajasthan and Gujarat. The construction of a 32 km highway from Bakhasar (Barmer) to Mavsari (Gujarat) is 80% complete. The project, costing Rs 325 crore, is expected to be finished by August 2025.

Currently, residents of Serwa and Bakhasar travel to Gujarat via Ramji Ka Gol Gandhav and Sanchore, covering about 150 km. With the new highway, this distance will be reduced to just 32 km. Some traffic has already started moving on the road.

Previous Road Was Washed Away

Earlier, a road was built in 1971 for military security, connecting Gujarat to the Rann of Kutch. However, it was washed away by water as it passed through the marshy Luni River region. For the past 30 years, there was no direct road in this area, and monsoon waterlogging made travel difficult.

Highway Built on Elevated Structure

The new two-lane highway is being built with culverts and pillars, making it 15-20 feet high to avoid waterlogging. Around 33 small and big bridges and culverts have been constructed to ensure smooth travel even during the rainy season.

This highway will boost tourism in border areas and create job opportunities for locals. Along with this project, new highways, hotels, roadside eateries, and resorts are also being developed on this route for tourists.
