Ixigo: Airfares Drop for Diwali Travel

Airfares on several domestic routes have decreased by 20 to 25% compared to last year's Diwali season

Good news for travellers planning to travel during the Diwali holidays. Airfares on several domestic routes have decreased by 20 to 25% compared to last year's Diwali season. This drop in prices is attributed to increased passenger capacity and reduced oil prices. In fact, on many routes, airfares are now even lower than train fares.

Travel portal Ixigo has analyzed average airfares for domestic routes. The analysis is based on advance purchase dates (APD) for the period from October 28 to November 3, coinciding with the Diwali celebrations.

Among the findings, the Bengaluru-Kolkata flight has seen the highest drop, with a 38% decrease. Last year, from November 10 to 16, the fare for this route was Rs 10,195/-. This year, it has reduced to Rs 6,319/-.

Additionally, fares for the Delhi-Kolkata, Hyderabad-Delhi, and Delhi-Srinagar routes have dropped by 32%.

Ixigo's CEO, Aloke Bajpai, explained that last year’s limited capacity led to higher airfares. This year, with additional capacity added, airfares have decreased significantly.
