Kuwait discontinues institutional quarantine for incoming passengers with COVID-19 Vaccine certificates

Migrant workers who are emplyed in Kuwait but stranded in their home countries need to get vaccinated soon to ensure that once the Kuwait borders open for foreign nationals, they can travel back to work without having to undergo the hassle of institutional quarantine.

The announcement by the Indian government to vaccinated those above the age of 45 has come like a shot in the arm for Indians employed in Kuwait but stranded in India. They need to immediately take this opportunity and take the vaccination from April1.

Kuwait government, in a recent decision has decided to exempt incoming passengers with a COVID-19 vaccine certificate from institutional quarantine. In a statement issued by the Centre for Government Communication on 22 March, it was announced that those having a valid COVID-19 certificate will be exempt from institutional quarantine.

This includes the following group of people:

  1. People who got vaccinated with 2 doses of vaccine and 2 weeks have passed since the second dose.
  2. People who received one dose of vaccine and more than 5 weeks have passed since.
  3. People who are recovered from COVID and have received one dose of the vaccine more than 2 weeks back.
  4. Students from Kuwait studying abroad will need to get a letter from their University, to be exempt from institutional quarantine.

However, the above mentioned people are supposed to complete 7 day home quarantine. On the 7th day, PCR examination will be conducted and if negative, their quarantine period ends.

The revised measures come after the country last month said all travellers arriving on direct flights from high risk countries would have to resort to institutional quarantine in one of the local hotels for 14 days. Additionally, it had said travellers coming from the rest of the world would have to quarantine institutionally for one week and another week at home.

The ban on foreign nationals entering the country remains.
