New Zealand Changes Post-Study Work Visa Rules
Many Indian students are worried about high visa rejection rates
November 26,2024 - New Zealand has updated its Post-Study Work Visa (PSWV) rules to attract more international students. The changes are especially beneficial for those pursuing postgraduate studies.
New Rules for Postgraduate Students
Students who complete a 30-week Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) and then directly enroll in a Master’s degree program are now eligible for a PSWV. Earlier, students were excluded unless they completed the entire 30-week PGDip.
Immigration New Zealand (INZ) said this change fixes gaps in the old policy and gives more flexibility to students pursuing combined postgraduate courses.
Increase in Student Numbers
In 2023, over 69,000 international students enrolled in New Zealand, a 67% jump from the previous year. New Zealand’s top-quality education and opportunities to work after graduation make it a popular destination. The new visa rules add to its appeal.
Concerns for Indian Students
Many Indian students are worried about high visa rejection rates, which remain a big challenge. This issue has made some students reconsider choosing New Zealand.
Competing with Other Countries
As New Zealand makes its policies more welcoming, countries like the UK and US are tightening immigration rules. These changes could help New Zealand become a more preferred destination for international students.
