The Railway Board has halted the decision to convert special trains into passenger trains within 15 days. This decision affects several trains that were set to change their status from July 1.

The trains that were to run under passenger numbers instead of special numbers from July 1 will now remain special. The Railway Board cancelled its earlier order issued on June 6, maintaining the status of four Udaipur trains: Udaipur-Mandsaur, Udaipur-Chittorgarh, and two Udaipur-Badi Sadri trains. However, the minimum fare will stay at Rs 10/-.

During the COVID-19 period in 2020, five passenger trains from Udaipur were converted into special and mail express trains. This change increased the minimum fare from Rs 10/- to Rs 30/-, which placed a heavy burden on passengers.

Recent Developments

In a notification issued in March, fares for four of these trains were reduced, but they remained classified as special trains. On June 6, their numbers were reverted to passenger trains, but this decision has now been postponed.

Specific Case: Udaipur-Madar Local Train

During the COVID-19 period, the Udaipur-Madar local train was converted into an express train, with its fare increased from Rs 65/- to Rs 110/-. While other trains received fare concessions this year, this train still charges the higher fare. Despite being classified as an express train, it stops at every station like a passenger train and takes over 8 hours to cover the 310 km journey, whereas other express trains on the same route take 5-6 hours.
