Refund claiming time for cancelled train tickets between March 21 to July 31, 2020 extended to 9 months

The claim time earlier was for 6 months.

-The refund is applicable only for regular time tabled trains cancelled by railways.

-Full refund for PRS counter tickets, auto-generation of refunds for tickets booked on IRCTC portal.

The time limit for cancellation of counter train tickets has been extended by the Ministry of Railways for 9 months. This notification is for the train journeys between March 21 and July 31, 2020. The timing has been extended from 6 months to 9 months due to the pandemic.

Since the pandemic forced cancellation of all regular trains, the ministry extended the facility of cancellation. The time limit has been extended up to 9 months from the date of journey for cancellation of PRS counter tickets and refund of ticket fares across reservation counters.

“It is applicable only for regular time tabled trains cancelled by Railways. After lapse of six months from the date of journey, many passengers may have deposited the tickets to Claims Office of Zonal Railways through TDR or through general application along with original tickets. Full refund of fare on such PRS counter tickets shall also be allowed for such passengers”, the ministry said in a statement.

Many trains were suspended due to lockdown in March. The time limit for cancellation was then announced for 3 days, later extended to 3 months and now it has been further extended to 9 months from the date of journey. Full refund has been auto generated to passengers who booked tickets through IRCTC portal. Similarly full refund has also been provided to many passengers who suffered due to cancellation of trains.
