King Cobra to Join Sajjangarh's Reptile House from Karnataka
Udaipur, November 15, 2024 - The Forest Department has proposed bringing a Schedule-1 species, the King Cobra, from Karnataka. The proposal has been sent to the Chief Wildlife Warden and is now under review by the Central Zoo Authority.
CCF Wildlife SRV Murthy mentioned that along with Indian reptiles, colorful exotic species will also be housed in the park. These reptiles will become a major attraction, particularly for children, who have only seen such creatures in movies.
Enclosures and Tender Process
The reptile section of the park will feature ten enclosures over 36 hectares. This includes King Cobras, Indian Pythons, two species of Russell’s Viper, and other reptiles. These animals will be purchased through a tender process, and the required process will be completed in the next two months.
Pilikula Bio Park Animal Exchange
Once the Zoo Authority grants permission, a pair of King Cobras will be brought from Pilikula Bio Park in Karnataka under the Animal Exchange Program. In exchange, Sajjangarh Bio Park will provide a pair of animals, which could include wolves, wild cats, or chinkaras.
Reptile Section Ready for Launch
The reptile section, covering 0.2 hectares of the 36-hectare bio park, has been built at a cost of 1.91 crore rupees. The work is nearly complete, with 90% finished, and the inauguration is set for January 2025.
Lion Safari Completed at Sajjangarh Sanctuary
