Tata Group Plans Big Expansion for Air India Express Fleet

Air India Express will cater to low-cost travellers

Tata Group Plans to Merge its four Airlines Into Two

The Tata Group is getting ready to expand the fleet of its low-cost airline, Air India Express. This will include planes from its other airlines, Air India and Vistara.

According to The Economic Times, Air India Express will soon get all-economy aircraft from Air India and Vistara. The first step in this plan will see 17 Airbus A320 Neo planes transferred from Air India. After the merger of Vistara with Air India is complete, 10 more similar planes will be added from Vistara. This entire process is expected to be finished by mid-2025.

The Tata Group's plan is to combine its four airlines into two: Air India and Air India Express. This will allow Air India to focus on premium customers, while Air India Express will cater to low-cost travellers.

In addition to the 17 planes from Air India, Air India Express will also add 15 Boeing 737 Max planes from its order. This expansion will increase the airline's capacity by mid-2024. Over the last 10 months, Air India Express has already added 26 Boeing 737-8 planes to its fleet.
