Udaipur, the city of lakes, is rapidly gaining fame not only as a tourist hotspot but also as a premier royal destination wedding city. The trend of destination weddings in Udaipur began in 1989 at the Hotel Lake Palace. This tradition has now expanded to over 30 luxurious hotel resorts and palaces.

Udaipur Venues Famous Worldwide

Udaipur is the first city in India to host the prestigious Raffles Hotel. For the past 30 years, an average of one new hotel resort has been added annually to the list of destination-royal wedding venues. Currently, a record 30 venues in Udaipur are popular nationwide. 90% percent of the royal weddings in Udaipur take place at these venues. 

Udaipur Destination Wedding Market

Before 2022, Udaipur's destination wedding market was valued at Rs 600 crores. Now, it has reached Rs 800-1,000 crores. This industry is also providing employment to more than 50,000 people. Except for the two and a half years during the pandemic, Udaipur saw a trend of 750-800 destination-royal weddings annually until 2021. There was a surge starting in 2022, with 1,050 weddings that year and 1,151 in 2023. By April 2024, more than 350 such weddings have already occurred, and there are bookings for over 1,200 weddings by December.

Five new hotels and resorts are under construction, but their work has been halted due to the UDA's restrictions and ongoing High Court reports.  The top five preferred destination-royal wedding locations in India are Udaipur, Goa, Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Kerala.
