The luxury train Vande Bharat, launched seven and a half months ago, is facing challenges in attracting passengers despite promises of speedy travel. Despite assurances from railway authorities, the train's performance in terms of speed and punctuality has not met expectations, leading to dwindling interest among travellers.

Passenger Load and Journey Time

Since its inauguration on September 24, the Udaipur-Jaipur-Udaipur Vande Bharat train has maintained a passenger load of only 50 to 60%. The train's higher fare and comparatively longer travel time have deterred passengers from opting for this rail travel.

Ticket Pricing and Speed

Passengers report that the ticket price for the Vande Bharat train is Rs 985/-, which increases to Rs 1330/- if meals are included. Despite having higher speed capabilities, the train frequently halts along the route to allow other trains to pass, resulting in a travel duration of six and a half to seven and a half hours for the Udaipur-Jaipur journey.

Schedule and Travel Duration

Analysis reveals that the Vande Bharat train, numbered 20979, departs from Udaipur to Jaipur at 7:50 in the morning, reaching Chittorgarh station at 9:25 am, taking 1 hour and 35 minutes for the journey. Similarly, on the return journey, the train departs from Chittorgarh at 7:55 in the evening and reaches Udaipur City station at 10:08 at night, taking 2 hours and 13 minutes for the same distance. 

Potential for Improvement

Passengers suggest that with strategic adjustments to the schedule, considering crossing times, the Vande Bharat train could arrive at its destination up to one hour earlier than the current timing. This optimization could enhance the train's appeal to travellers seeking efficient and timely transportation options.

The Vande Bharat luxury train, while promising swift travel, is currently grappling with issues of punctuality, travel duration, and passenger satisfaction. Efforts to streamline its schedule and optimize travel times could potentially revitalize interest and improve the overall passenger experience.
