With the temperature touching above 45 degrees in Udaipur, it was the hottest season we have ever seen and now the hottest month of May is packing up, let’s see what June brings. As we are moving closer to the time of monsoon arriving in Udaipur we hope to get at least enough rain to fill our drying thirsty lakes. So, we can have a mesmerizing view of green aravali hills, over flowing Fateh Sagar lake and sparkling blue Lake Pichola. That’s more than enough, a reason to be happy. But the fact is we are actually careless and selfish when it comes to our ever loving city. We want things to get settled by its own without our contribution, that’s not possible. We don’t want to know that the water we are using for our domestic purpose is actually coming from where. Is it from Fateh Sagar or Swaroop Sagar or Pichola? Who cares till we have enough to use and enough to waste?

Lake Pichola – Not any mesmerizing view!

…..

Lake Fateh Sagar – Where is that charm?

At last we will bad mouth and make our government responsible for what actually we did, and then there will be long debates, protests and media coverage. Again, it will make us happy to see things working out but nothing realistic. We need rain not just to fill our lakes but for everything, commercially, socially and personally. The life of Udaipur is actually lies in its lakes. Majority or you can say almost every tourist visits Udaipur just because of its lakes. If the lakes are completely dried up, there will be no tourists, hence no business, no money rotation, no market and naturally no jobs at all. On the other side, if it doesn’t rain, farmers will suffer with their annual crops, again a big loss to Udaipur’s crop market which we call Krishi Mandi or Mandi. Forcefully, a poor farmer and a jobless youth will try another way to arrange bread for their family. That “another way” could be anything either wrong or right but the whole system will get imbalanced. Here where you will directly or indirectly get affected. Lose will not be of an individual but for each and every Udaipurites. So what we can do? I can write and you can read, then you will forget and I will start writing another article. The story will end here as it always happens since years. No, this time not. Because somewhere or other we have to wake up before it’s too late. Take this as a starting point, now I am asking you to come up with your opinion if you really care about Udaipur and if you don’t wish to buy a residential plot between dried Fateh Sagar renamed as “ fateh sagar colony” to tell your children that “the place you are playing was once a Lake filled with so much water and life” It is time for action!
