Traffic Movement at Accident-Prone Debari and Balicha Junctions to be Rectified

Udaipur, December 25, 2024 - A traffic mishap two days ago at the Debari intersection has catupulated the administration into taking immediate action. The tire of a tanker burst at Debari crossroads sending the vehicle out of control. This prompted Udaipur District Collector Arvind Poswal, Udaipur District Authority (UDA) secretary Rahul Jain, and National Highway Authority (NHA) officials to visit the area and identify the reason for such a mishap. The conclusion of the inspection was that the road from Debari to Pindwara corner had flawed traffic movement.

Vehicles coming from Debari had to make a full circle and then go up on to the Pindwara highway, which posed risks. Similarly, vehicles descending from Pindwara towards Debari gained speed owing to the downhill slope.

Additionally, the Balicha junction, on the Ahmedabad Highway, was also seen as an accident-prone zone. At the junction there are several restaurants and dhabas along the service road. Drivers coming from there need to make a U-turn to reach the main junction. This often leads to accidents because vehicles coming from Pratap Nagar are not visible owing to the sharp turn.

To mitigate this problem, the service road and the turn will now be modified.

Additionally, the officials discussed improving the traffic management system, and it was decided to restrict heavy vehicles at the Pratap Nagar crossroads. As a major entry point to the city, this crossroads sees the highest traffic of incoming and outgoing vehicles. The continuous movement of trucks, trailers, and dumpers cause frequent traffic jams. To ease this congestion, heavy vehicles will be prohibited at this junction.

The District Collector has instructed the NHA team to address these issues immediately. A team has already started a survey to implement the changes.
