An auto rickshaw driver tried to commit suicide on Friday evening by jumping into Fatehsagar Lake. He was saved in time by the speed boat operators.
As narrated by a photo journalist, an auto rickshaw was seen speeding towards boating stand at Fatehsagar Lake. It reached the main gate of Guru Govind Singh Park and took a steep U-turn. Some people thought that the auto driver was in mood for displaying stunts. Suddenly the auto stopped and the driver jumped out of it yelling at the top of his voice. In no time, the auto rickshaw driver went up the railing and jumped into the lake. This photo journalist shouted out to the people making them aware that someone had jumped into the lake and needed to be saved. Speed boat operator Kalu Bhai also called out to the public who rushed to the spot.
A rescue speed boat was immediately sent to save the drowning man. The speed boat team caught hold of the man’s hand and pulled him out of the lake. Narayan, Shaqir and Bheru made a very quick attempt to hold the drowning man by his hand else he would have sunk. The auto rickshaw driver Abdul Wahid Rangrej was in a dishevelled state of mind when pulled out.
There was a suicide note, wallet and mobile found in his auto. In the suicide note, the auto rickshaw driver had mentioned that he was made a member of a company by some people whose names were also mentioned in the suicide note. He wrote that these people were pressurising him for money which led to a depression and hence the reason for committing suicide.
The boat operators said that they sped towards the direction where public had collected and was pointing towards this man. He was struggling with the probability of survival. They also said that they could pull him out in the nick of time.image courtesy bhaskar
