Just read a story on how passionate Bollywood actor John Abraham is about motorcycles and biking. He is set to star in and co-produce a movie with Ajay Kapoor. So this gets us writing of a different form of bike treks that a group of enthusiasts in Udaipur undertake.
Talking of biking, this passion reigns in a town as small as Udaipur as well. Multiple biking groups in the city, toying their Suzukis, Hondas, Triumph and Harleys on the roads in and around Udaipur have set the ball rolling for bike lovers in the city.
These groups get together over weekends, for high speed road rides on their super bikes. Some of them even do the Ladakh circuit with their two wheeled machines – biking equipment sales are on rocking in the city.
KC Bikers, a team of six Enfield enthusiasts from Udaipur, have a slightly different passion for biking. They pillion on three bikes – Royal Enfields, all of them. The passion here is not road racing but exploring jungles and routing mountains in the Aravalis in all their bike treks. High mountains rides with pillion, the Enfields spewing bullets – riding for over 6-8 km continuously on a single gear.. bike tyres thrashing down the boulders on the way up or down, skidding, sliding, falling, dig crashing – is what adrenaline pumping is all about. The engines emit fire-like heat after a hard climb.
A 6km uphill ride on both the 1st and 2nd gear or even on 1st gear takes anywhere between 45min to 90 min. The downhill on a similar terrain could be taking more, as t is trickier, with loose mud, flowing water, bike wheels unable to sustain the braking, rolling and loose stones taking much of patience and grit and a steely grip on the handle bars, four tight fingers on the front brake and one leg managing the foot brake while the other balancing the bike – it is a thrill worth experiencing!!
With 6 jungle journeys under their belt, the 6 member KC Bikers, led by Firoz are now an experienced lot and wroom the jungles and forest mountains comfortably, but more wary as they are aware of new challenges. Wild animals are the last bit worry for them, as is bike machinery collapsing in the middle of the jungle, on a mountain, especially when it is pitch dark. Animals anyway stay away from the roar of a Royal Enfield.
Equipped with their saddle bags, trek boots, enough determination and a bit of luck, the 6-some set out twice in a year, during monsoon and during heavy winters to experience a new journey on a new forest route. Moderate speed rides on the highways to the jungle destination, with tea breaks, meeting forest officials at the jungle entry points, encountering villages in upcountry, interacting with tribals of the area, understanding their lifestyle, problems, working on solutions on return, experiencing jungle exploration on bikes, parking their bikes in the middle of a jungle when it is pitch dark, in eerie silence for hours, is what this journey is all about.
Biking passion for them is not about riding at super speeds on well constructed highways or riding up well established and much visited paths, but rather encountering the unexplored using high power bikes – there is nothing to beat the Royal Enfield on such excursions! Here the KC Bikers take XTreme biking to a new level.More Photos from the KC Bikers adventures – 4 years and rolling…
