Points to ponder- concept of beauty?
Who created the concept of beauty by emphasising on vital stats? This scene of physical beauty has gone really far and is also a cause of depression among many. It is also the cause of dent on pockets. And to think of it, it is not only about females, it is about males, too. I am not against things of beautification, but I was forced to think on this since I have seen a lot of mothers complaining that their kids don’t eat well for the fear of putting on weight and not being able to control it later is playing havocs with their senses. This is resulting in undernourished bodies.
One topic that always makes me wonder …and I am sure that there are many who will agree with me…some may find it amusing…some may even think that I am a lost case, but here it is.

Why is it necessary for a person to fit into a prescribed frame? Where did this “prescription” come from? If we go by the stories of the ancient world, the Egyptian world, Cleopatra was and is still a celebrated beauty. The physical stats of 36-24-36 has been ruling the Indian stories, too. Every time you pick up a love story, the description doesn’t go by the inner beauty first. It goes by the physical beauty that turned several heads in the market, or the stories of women whose beauty caused battles. The mention of glowing skin and a perfect figure being described as cotton soft skin, rosy lips, hourglass bodies and even the walk being referred to as “हिरणी जैसी चाल” actually makes me believe that physical beauty came first while ruling someone’s heart.
Even while giving a man’s description, his looks were focussed more than his skills and bravery. There are many stories which refer to a man as “बांका,छबीला जवान”. The strength of mind and the fighting skills always followed the description of looks(this may not be the case in all stories, but many of them as we have been reading since childhood).
Even now, when young girls focus more on eating salads and fruits most of the time, they are actually depriving themselves of a balanced diet not realising the repercussions in their later life. Physical activity is almost nil now-a-days as the burden of studies or the job requires being on the table and chair most of the time. To add to this, the growth of beautification items is adding a dent to the already tight pockets. People going in for facelifts and liposuction are common happenings now.
The children are more interested in rushing to the gym in the late evening hours if they are forced to eat the normal food cooked at home because the thought of putting on an extra layer of fat itself burdens their minds.
Food is supposed to provide you nutrition and every place has different food habits as per the climate and water of that region. But with the growing fad diets, the children have moved away from the natural food habits and focussing only on what slims them or keeps them fit as per the beauty trends.
If this concept of having a shapely body grows and if the kids give up on the natural trends of eating and go for only what has been described on the beauty sites or what they hear from others, loads of health problems are sure to crop up and they already have. Children fainting because of low blood pressure is also a result of not eating properly.
Every young female running towards a zero figure is actually running herself into danger. Even the fashion shows had decided to give up on the skinny girls and they were asked to eat right as it resulted in a lot of models almost starving to death.
I feel that you should eat well and everything because all that is edible has necessary items divided into variety by nature. Cutting down the calories may help, but totally cutting out calories can be destructive in the long run.
Beauty is not external, first it is internal. You need to feel good to look good. Simply following the trends is not the right way to beautification. When there can be outlets for plus sized clothes, why can’t we feel beautiful the way we are and opt for a plus sized mind? (Got it?)
Having a shapely body is good, but killing yourself for it and following blindly is not.
