Recently, there have been a lot of talks about ONDC (Open Network for Digital Commerce), that is giving light into the food delivery market. Sources claim that food ordered via ONDC is reportedly cheaper than the ones offered online food delivery platforms like Swiggy and Zomato.
Users of applications like Paytm, PhonePe, and Magicpin now have access to food suppliers with a lesser percentage of the transaction being taken along the way than with private app intermediates that take a larger cut of the purchase price. This network is based on open protocols for widespread participation.
It is an Unified Payments Interface protocol, which was launched last year to help small retailers survive the large tech-based e-commerce companies. The ministries of ONDC helps small retailers expand their business and reduce the dominance of e-commerce giants and build an open network on which buyers and sellers can transact without needing to be present on the same platform.
