Udaipur will soon see a rapid transformation of its waste management system with an integrated Rs 300-crore sewerage treatment plan. The plan proposes to improve the waste management system of Udaipur and also clean the water bodies of urban sewage.

The plan has been prepared as part of the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme. The scheme proposes to treat the sewage water flowing into Ayad river. Rs 304 Cr had been sanctioned by state-level technical committee (SLTC) for treatment of sewage water in Udaipur.

Dr Manjit Singh, principal secretary, local self-government, and state mission director, Smart City Mission & AMRUT, said that four agencies have been employed for this project and the project is expected to be completed by 2019.

There are currently 139 drains carrying sewage water in Ayad. The treatment plan is proposed to be completed for all these by 2019. The work will be completed in 2 phases. In first phase, the area near the lake will be covered. Estimated cost of this is around Rs 5.75 Crores. In the second phase, a decentralized 40MLD STP will be set up at an estimated cost of Rs 304 Cr.

Work order for sewerage plant has been already issued by Udaipur Smart City Ltd (USCL) and over 4kms of sewer lines have already been laid.
