Teen Cyclist to paddle 7000km for Cause

Sumit Singh, a 19 year old Engineering student and a passionate cyclist from Indore has taken up the initiative of spreading the awareness of “Save a Girl Child” on his young shoulders.

He is doing this by means of a cross country travel on a bi-cycle. A student of IPS Academy, Indore, He reached Udaipur on August 1 and will leave for Chittor tomorrow, August 3.

His cycling journey started from Indore and will go all the way to Delhi, a 7000 km stretch that will take him through Ujjain, Udaipur, Chittor, Jaipur and then to Delhi from where he will be touring Uttar Pradesh prior to deciding his next route extension.

Travelling approximately 215 km. every day, he meets his nourishment by having fruit juices and fruits.

During his stay in Udaipur, Sumit met orphans in Seva Mandir, and visited the Nagar Parishad School in Dhol ki Pati where he celebrated Rakhi and had lunch with the students of the school.

He aims to complete his travel in 35 days, which should entitle him to a world record. On why he chose a cycle tour for this purpose, Sumit said “cycle is a slow means of transport and wherever he goes, people observe the cyclist and understand the purpose of my mission”.

Taking about his mission to save girl child Sumit told UT “I am surprised to note that people from rural areas are supporting the cause more than people from cities”.

Sumit also hold two other world records to his name – The Longest Stay on a Nail Bed and Maximum Straws in the Mouth.

Sumit’s mission has been sponsored by BSA cycle and his college IMS.
