Mewar Festival Celebrations Begins in Udaipur

The city of Udaipur, renowned for its picturesque lakes, came alive with the commencement of the three-day Mewar Festival on April 11, 2024. Jointly organized by the District Administration and the Tourism Department, the festival started with enthusiasm, showcasing the rich culture of Mewar.

From the iconic clock tower in the old city to the serene Gangaur Ghat, the streets of Udaipur resonated with the beats of tradition as colourful processions unfolded. Men and women, dressed in traditional attire, paraded through the city. People, members of the media, and vloggers were observed capturing the moments using their cameras and mobile phones.

Amidst the melodic tunes of folk songs and the rhythmic beats of drums, women carried idols of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati on their heads, symbolizing devotion and reverence.

A highlight of the festivities was the majestic royal procession from Bansi Ghat to Gangaur Ghat, adorned with traditional musical instruments and vibrant bands. The enchanting sight drew locals, tourists, and foreigners alike, who joined in the celebration, dancing and rejoicing in the festive spirit.

Boat Procession

Adding to the allure, the boat procession, with the adorned Gangaur Boats, sailed gracefully across the shimmering waters of Lake Pichola. Against the backdrop of a gentle rain shower, the scene looked like a painting, with people on the shores enjoying the sight of folk dances and drum performances.

As evening descended, Gangaur Ghat transformed into a hub of cultural delight, with folk artists presenting captivating performances that showcased the essence of Rajasthani culture. The ambiance was further elevated with a dazzling display of fireworks.

Exciting Events Ahead

As the festival progresses, the excitement continues to build. On the second day, April 12, a cultural evening awaits at Gangaur Ghat, featuring a competition for foreign couples dressed in Rajasthani attire. Rajasthani folk performances promise to enchant the audience, with prizes awaiting the best-dressed duos.

Rural Charm at Gogunda

Simultaneously, the rural charm of Mewar unfolds at Gogunda, located 40 km from Udaipur, with a traditional ‘Gangaur Mela’ and ‘Rural Haat Bazar.’ The procession of Lal Gangaur, adorned in red, adds to the vibrant atmosphere as women clad in traditional attire carry the idols through the village streets.
