Amolak Diagnostic’s owner sentenced to one year jail

Dr Rajendra Kachhawa, owner of Wellspring Amolak Diagnostic Centre has been sentenced to one year jail by court for his alleged involvement in sex determination test. After hearing the arguments, court announced its verdict against Dr Kachhawa yesterday.

Dr Rajendra Kachhawa, owner of Wellspring Amolak Diagnostic Centre has been sentenced to one year jail by court for his alleged involvement in sex determination test. After hearing the arguments, court announced its verdict against Dr Kachhawa yesterday.

As per details available, the case dates back to a sting operation carried out on 13-Jun 2006. As part of the sting operation, a pregnant lady was sent as a decoy to Wellspring Amolak Diagnostic Centre. Dr Kachhawa revealed the gender of the baby in exchange of Rs 1000. Dr Kachhawa also gave her the idea of terminating the baby inside the womb and this was cleared captured in the camera used for sting operation.

After the incident came to light, the Chief Medical and Health officer Dr Ramesh Chandra Ahari initiated investigation. Post that a case was lodged and the court announced its verdict yesterday.

A complaint was lodged on 17-Mar-2008 by the then Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr MS Yadav against Dr Kachhawa and his manager.

Finally, after hearing the arguments from both parties, the judge announced Dr Kachhawa guilty under Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act and sentenced him to one year imprisonment and Rs 5000 fine.
