Udaipur’s Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested an Income Tax officer while he was accepting a bribe of Rs.90000 from a businessman.

41-year-old Mahesh Dhaka (in photo above) an IT inspector was caught red handed today morning while taking bribe money from a property dealer Mukesh Soni. ACB officials have arrested the IT inspector and received bribe amount of Rs.90000 in cash. Besides this Rs. 1.63 cash and several documents related to bank accounts were also found while searching his house at Hiran Magri, Sec-11.

On the other hand, the accused has shown no regrets over his involvement in the crime and he was looking very comfortable. The more shocking was the statement that he made in front of media persons, “What they can do except suspending me, there are many of my juniors who have reached to a good position even after suspension”

He confessed for his ‘mistake’ saying boldly, “It was my mistake that I forced him (victim) too much, otherwise he had already agreed to pay me some amount.”

According to Rajendra Prasad Goyal, Additional Superintendent (ACB), the accused IT inspector had approached Mukesh Soni, a businessman a month ago and asked him to come up with all his tax related documents. When Mukesh Soni visited IT inspector Mahesh Dhaka with all his documents they were all clear and no payment was due on Mukesh.

IT inspector Mahesh purposely tried to scare the businessman that he has received complains about his improper work and demanded Rs. 5 lakhs to ‘settle’ everything.

The negotiation came to Rs. 2.5 lakhs which Mukesh promised to give him on Oct 18 but he could manage only Rs.90, 000. Worried about the officer’s reaction, he approached ACB and narrated the whole story. Arrested IT inspector was posted in Jhunjunu district for 16 years and was transferred to Udaipur in year 2009.
