Some miscreants tried to create unrest in the city by abandoning a burning gas cylinder outside the Paltan Masjid at Chetak Circle. The incident happened in the early hours today but luckily the burning cylinder was seen by some people and fire brigade informed leading to avoidance of any major accident.

As per the details available, few men came in the car in wee hours of Wednesday morning in a car and fled the scene after leaving behind a burning cylinder right in front of the Paltan mosque at Chetak Circle. Fortunately the burning cylinder was noticed by some members of Bohra Community who had woken up for “Sehri”. These people immediately informed police and the fire brigade came in time to control the fire.

The entire incident was captured in CCTV cameras. Police is investigating the footage from the scene and also from nearby areas. The incident comes as a shock since the mosque is located just about 100 mtrs from Hathipole Police Station and right in the heart of city.

Members of Muslim community were enraged from the incident alleging that Police had been casual in their approach and not even lodged a case against anyone. To protest against this, members of Anjuman Talimul Islam Committee gave a memorandum to SP Rajendra Prasad Goyal and demanded immediate and strict action.

Riyaz Hussain, Sadar of Paltan Masjid said that even though there are 50 cameras installed in the street between Hathipole to Chetak, but Police has still not been able to trace the miscreants.

SP Rajendra Goyal however played down the incident and said that the incident was no so serious since the gas cylinder was empty and fire was superficial.
