Vinay Bhanawat, the currency man of Udaipur holds 22 World records for his collection of currency notes. Currency collection moved from his hobby to becoming a passion resulting in him holding the most unique collection of a set of currency notes.
Bhanawat holds the world record for maximum number of notes bearing ‘786’ number. He has 92000 notes with the series. The next best is held by a Bangaladesh citizen with 78000 notes followed by a Pakistan citizen with 60000 notes.
Bhanawat hobby of collection started at the age of 11 when he started with stamp collection. Currency notes got added to his hobby when he turned 15 and since then has become his passion. Bhanawat has gone the full distance to improve his collection. In one such incident, Bhanawat bought a rare Rs 1 currency that he was searching for from a Englishman for Rs 27000. Bhanawat said that he faced stiff resistance from his family as he used to spend significant proportion of his saving to improve his collection.
Bhanawat also holds world record for most number of fancy notes and defective notes. Fancy notes are those currency notes that have special series like 11111, 22222 etc. He has this series for all notes from Rs 1 to Rs 2000. He also has huge collection of defective notes. Defective notes include notes with wrong or missing signatures, misprints, wrong shapes etc.
His interesting collection also includes notes that have pretty much all date of birth matching numbers. He gifts these “date of birth” notes to well known personalities. He has already gifted over 250 date of birth notes to personalities like CM Vasundhara Raje, Ustaad Amjad Ali, Birju Maharaj etc.
Eventually Bhanawat intends to open up a museum of his collection for local public tourists.
