Rajasthan is the only state in the country where students in class 10th study Gujarati and Punjabi as third languages instead of their official language Rajasthani. According to the sources, The State Government and the Board of Education are not only teaching the languages of other states as a third language in the schools, but their examinations are also being conducted.

Rajasthani language is not included in the 10th grade third language, although Rajasthani literature is now available as an optional topic in the 11th standard. The reason for this is that if the government achieves this, 30,000 Rajasthani language teachers would have to be retained.

Rajasthani literature papers for class 12th are solely prepared in Rajasthani by the board. The questions are also asked in Rajasthani language. Every year, 9 to 10 lakh students from government and non-government institutions in the state attempt the class 10th board examination. All of them have to take any language out of Gujarati, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Urdu and Sindhi along with compulsory subjects. Other languages are included in the list of third language but Rajasthani language is not included in this list.

There is enthusiasm for Rajasthani language in West Rajasthan. Rajasthani language literature is taught as an optional subject in various government schools at Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Jodhpur, Nagori, Pali and Churu.
