Complete chapters have been deleted in some subjects and certain sub sections have been deleted in other subjects, while retaining all chapters.

CBSE has released the revised syllabus for classes 9-12. This was done subsequent to instructions by the education ministry to revise the syllabus for classes 9 – 12 and reduce the load in light of the extra ordinary circumstances caused by the global coronavirus pandemic.

As per the available information, school syllabus for senior classes has been slashed by upto 30%, the government directive said today. The CBSE rationalized the course and lightened the burden, while at the same time ensuring that the core concepts are retained.

For class X, chapters have been deleted in Social Sciences, Hindi, English and Science. However, for Mathematics, all chapters have been retained, while some sections of the chapters, which were rarely addressed in the examinations, have been deleted.

The CBSE, in a statement said that the loss of classroom teaching during the current year has led the board to decide to revise the syllabus for classes IX-XII for the current academic year. It further added that the changes made in the syllabi have been finalized by the respective course committees with the approval of the Curriculum Committee and governing body of the board.

“Looking at the extraordinary situation prevailing in the country and the world, CBSE was advised to revise the curriculum and reduce the course load for students of classes 9th-12th”Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Union Human Resource Development Minister.

He added that the course will be rationalized in a manner that will ease the burden to an extent, while at the same time, retaining the core concepts.

Dy Chief Minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia, had in June suggested that the course curriculum be reduced by 30%.

The CISCE (Council for Indian School Certificate Examination) which conducts ICSE and ISC examinations, had also decided last week to cut down the syllabus by 25%.
