IIM Udaipur will now be awarding MBA degree to students based on the directions of HRD. IIM students used to get PGP and PGP-X diplomas, but from now on students will be awarded with MBA degrees. IIM Udaipur stands second after Bengaluru in awarding MBA degrees to its students.

These MBA degrees will be given away to 177 students on 23rd March in the convocation ceremony in IIM Udaipur campus. Bengaluru IIM recently awarded MBA degrees to its students on 17th March. In a meeting held on 17th March in Udaipur, it was initially decided not to give MBA degrees to students. Later as per directives issued by HRD Ministry, IIM Udaipur finalised on giving MBA degrees to its students. The decision was finally endorsed in Academic Council meeting in IIM Udaipur on Monday. The 2016-18 batches have 177 students appearing for the course and will be awarded MBA degrees.

21 students from PGP-X will not be getting degrees as there is no proper clarification given by HRD on PGP-X and UGC does not even have any clear instructions about PGP. Based on this PGP-X students will get their degrees from next year, as informed by IIM Director Professor Janat Shah.

The IIM Bill that promises to grant academic, administrative and financial autonomy to the IIMs and allows them to award degrees to their graduates has received Parliament approval. All degrees and titles that are recognised under UGC can be given by IIM.

MBA degree will help students achieve international recognition. Students will not face any placement issue on international level since MBA degree will open many options for them. Until now, it was not difficult for students to get placements in India with PGP degrees but it was causing some hindrance on international scale. With IIM now providing MBA degrees, new dimensions will open for students.
