In this rapidly changing time of technology and knowledge there are still many groups of people who are untouched by this change. To reduce the gap between the computer haves and have nots, students of Phoenix International Business School (PIBS) have taken a noble initiative in collaboration with Art of Living and the Central Jail Superintendent. They hope to change the image of jails – from a burden on society to centers of personal growth and productive skill building.

PIBS Students Turning Central Jail to a Center of GrowthAs part of the mission of PIBS to groom socially responsible business leaders, students of PIBS have developed an innovative 1 week computer education curriculum for inmates of Udaipur Central Jail. They have so far trained 20 inmates in basic computer skills including Hindi typing, Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint. Besides computer skills, PIBS students are trying to work with the prisoners in trying to bring about a change in their thought process.

This project is being carried out under the guidance of Manish Jain [faculty of PIBS], “It is important that MBA students learn that Corporate Social Responsibility are not just fancy words. We want them to learn to make CSR a reality in Udaipur and, in the process, learn about the joy of giving back to society.”

“Working in the jail has really opened my eyes on the need to do something good for society. I would like to start some similar work back in my hometown of Bhilwara”, said 1st year student Yasmin Khan.

“I was very surprised to see how fast the inmates were picking up the computer skills. We are already planning an advance course for them featuring tally, website design and video editing,” said 2nd year student Suresh Suthar.

The following PIBS students are actively working towards this mission: Suresh Suthar, Mahesh Sharma, Rekha Tusia, Yasmin Khan, Arun Singh Rajpurohit.  You are welcome to join them.
