Preparations are being made by the medical counselling committee to give more than 1 lakh seats of PG Medical including MBBS , in all medical colleges of the country. This will be done with a single common counseling.  Ministry of Health and Family Welfare operated NMC Chairman Prof. Atul Goyal has sent a proposal regarding this. In common counselling students will be able to know which college they are getting out of their state quota and All India quota. 

This will save time and money of 1 lakh students as well as their families every year and also students will be able to start their studies soon after selecting their choice of college. Apart from this, initially 5 months time will be available for studies.

In the proposal, 85% quota is demanded for the state and 15% quota is for All India. Similarly for PG, 50% state quota and 50% all India quota will be allotted. This year 20,87,449 students registered for NEET. 

How is the counseling done till now?
Every year more than 20 lakh candidates give the exam. There are 5 processes to go through for seat allotment. There is All India Round-1 & 2, then State Round-1 & 2. In the 4th round, the vacant seats are filled from the 5th round.
 How long does the counselling take?
The process of seat allotment after NEET is long. Counseling itself takes 5 months.
 How will the common counselling be done?
You will not have to go through 5 rounds in this counseling. There will be only one round for admission to more than one lakh seats. Eligible candidates will be able to get admission in this.
 What is the benefit of common counselling?
The cost and time of going to different state counseling will be saved. In case of timely counseling and non-availability of seats, there will be time for preparation. Relief from NOC-documentation as well.
 Will there be time for exams also?
Now, the candidate is hoping for the seat till the last stage, in such a situation there is less time for re-appear or other exam. Now the situation will become clear. Children will be able to decide the direction.

Proposal sent to Health Secretary-VC of the states
Prof. Goyal has sent the proposal to the Director of Medical Education, Health Secretary and VC of Medical Universities of the states. The reason behind this has been attributed to guidelines received from different courts and requests by colleges and candidates to make counselling easier. It is also mentioned that every state has different rules of reservation. For its solution, the names of educationists have been sought for the nodal officer. The educationist concerned should know the nuances of the counseling process including reservation for appointment.
