Techno NJR's Piyush to Coordinate ISTE Workshop by IIT-B

Piyush Javeria, an Assistant Professor at Techno India NJR Institute of Technology, Udaipur is selected as Remote Centre Coordinator at Udaipur for a special workshop commenced by Indian Institute of Technology Mumbai (IIT-B)

 

Techno NJR's Piyush to Coordinate ISTE Workshop by IIT-BPiyush Javeria, an Assistant Professor at Techno India NJR Institute of Technology, Udaipur is selected as Remote Centre Coordinator at Udaipur for a special workshop commenced by Indian Institute of Technology Mumbai (IIT-B) which is effective in 22 remotes centers of India through internet.

The 2-week ISTE workshop on “Software Development Techniques for Teachers of Engineering and Science Institutes” is organized by IIT-B for the faculties teaching in engineering and science institutes of India and the initiative is supported by MHRD.

Live lectures will be given to the participating teachers through AVIEW mechanism of interaction on the Internet at various selected remote centers. Out of several modules, participating teachers will learn how to use Linux tools, version control systems, latex, basic python, advanced python and test driven development, writing unit tests and improving quality of codes etc.

While talking to UT, Piyush said: “This workshop is aimed at enhancing the teaching skills of our faculty colleagues in core Engineering and Science Subjects and will benefit the faculty who want to use Open Source Tools for teaching and computational needs.”

“Free and Open Source Software is the need of the hour as source code is available for study, modification and redistribution. Government of India is laying a lot of emphasis on it,” Piyush said.

The workshop will be conducted at 22 centers all over the country for 5 weekends so that interested participants can attend the workshop during the semester (starting from 5-6, 12-13, 19-20, 26-27 November 2011, and 3-4 December 2011) Course fee is not charged by the participants as the workshop is funded by the National Mission on Education ICT (MHRD, Government of India).

In the previous workshop conducted under ISTE following topics were covered: Effective teaching / learning of Computer Programming, Database Management Systems, Thermodynamics in Mechanical Engineering, and Basic Electronics. It was conducted in 77 remote centers and was attended by more than 4000 teachers across the country.
