In the context of students aspiring to pursue education or employment opportunities, the conventional practice of carrying physical marksheets and documents is becoming a thing of the past. Instead, a new system has been introduced to streamline and digitize the process. For students who are pursuing higher education, particularly in colleges and universities, it has become obligatory to open an Academic Bank of Credit (ABC) account. This innovative approach offers several advantages and brings about a significant change in how academic records are managed.

Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar, the Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), disclosed that more than 20 crore students nationwide have enrolled in the UGC's Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) program. The ABC platform is a virtual credit database that securely stores the academic credits earned by individual students online. This initiative, in accordance with the guidelines set forth in the National Education Policy (NEP) of 2020, is designed to streamline and simplify the process of credit transfer for students, enabling them to transition between different academic disciplines and institutions of higher education seamlessly.

The introduction of the Academic Bank of Credit (ABC) account has eliminated the need for students to physically carry their marksheets and educational documents wherever they go. Traditionally, students have had to present these documents as proof of their academic qualifications, which can be inconvenient and risky in case of loss or damage to important records.

With the new system in place, students can securely store their academic records in their ABC account, making them easily accessible at any time. In alignment with the directives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, this initiative has been established with the primary objective of expediting the transfer of academic credits for students. This facilitates their smooth transition across diverse academic disciplines and higher education institutions.

Moreover, the ABC account has also been integrated into the administrative processes of educational institutions. It has become a mandatory requirement for students to open and maintain this account to complete various academic tasks, such as filling out exam forms. This measure not only simplifies administrative procedures but also encourages students to adopt a more organized and digital approach to managing their academic records.
