Biggest Bollywood Flops of Year 2011

The year 2011 also witnessed a number of releases, some good, some bad and a few were a surprise. We are here to talk about the bad experiences of Cinema this year. The list is long though, but let us concentrate on the biggies, who appeared as a blunder, in spite of the amazing star cast and “larger than life” Banners.

Biggest Bollywood Flops of Year 2011

The moment we talk about Cinema and entertainment the first name that captures our imaginations is Bollywood, the machine whose supplying quotient has always been on a higher side than the demand of the masses. A manufacturer of hundreds of films, every year, the Hindi Film Industry pampers each baby of it’s with love and care. But as they say, the best is here to stay and the rest has to wither away.

1. Patiala House (Akshay Kumar, Anushka Sharma, Rishi Kapoor, Dimple Kapadia)

Directed by Nikhil Advani

Biggest Bollywood Flops of Year 2011Dimple Kapadia and Rishi Kapoor, a couple that has always set the screen on fire, since the times of, Bobby, failed to recreate the magic this time. The movie showcases the conflicts of a father (Rishi Kapoor)-son (Akshay Kumar) relationship, that has been a plot to many other films, earlier. Unfortunately, this huge NRI Punjabi family had to offer nothing new, neither in terms of the storyline nor in terms of the performances.

2. 7-Khoon Maaf (Priyanka Chopra, Naseeruddin Shah, Irfan Khan)

Directed by Vishal Bharadwaj.

Biggest Bollywood Flops of Year 2011Vishal Bharadwaj’s sensible direction and a good performance from Priyanka Chopra were not good enough to satisfy the viewer’s expectations, resulting into no “MAAFI” to “7 Khoon Maaf”. Vishal has always chosen a different genre for his films, but this time the audience completely rejected his experiment. The film had a lethargic mood attached to it, which resulted in it being declared a flop.

3. Game (Abhishek Bachchan, Sarah Jane Dias, Kangana Ranaut, Jimmy Shergill)

Directed by Abhinay Deo.

Dum Maro Dum (Abhishek Bachchan, Bipasha Basu, Aditya Pancholi, Prateik Babbar)

Directed by Rohan Sippy

Biggest Bollywood Flops of Year 2011

Well Abhishek is a daring name that is very bravely paying off (both good and bad) for being a Bachchan. His two releases this year, “Game” and “Dum Maro Dum” fell on the Box Office badly. What I feel is that Abhishek always chooses the wrong Director and Production for himself that results adding onto another FLOP in his career. Loosely knit screenplays, and acting not worth talking about were probably the result of these failures. “Game and “Dum Maro Dum” proved to be a disaster on the Ticket khidki since the very first day.

4. Thank You (Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Sunil Shetty, Celina Jaitly)

Directed by Anees Bazmee.

Biggest Bollywood Flops of Year 2011

Aneez Bazmee’s “Thank You” was nothing but a sequel to his older flicks, “No Entry” and “Welcome”. A tired comic venture, “Thank You” hit the silver screen with a galaxy of stars, viz. Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol, Sonam Kapoor , Suniel Shetty, Irrfan Khan and Celina Jaitley, yet proved to be a hopeless event, that came and passed by without getting noticed.

5. Rascals (Ajay Devgan, Sanjay Dutt, Kangna Ranaut, Arjun Rampal)

Directed by David Dhawan

Biggest Bollywood Flops of Year 2011Another “wannabe” comedy of this year was “Rascals”. Ajay Devgan, Sunjay Dutt and Kangna Ranaut’s highly over enthusiastic performances left the film with no viewers. It would not be an exaggeration to say that the movie had nothing to serve except cheap comedy that did not attract too many people. “Rascals” was one of the lamest pieces of art this year.

6. Bheja Fry2 (Vinay Pathak, Minissha Lamba, Amol Gupte, Kay Kay Menon)

Directed by Sagar BallaryBiggest Bollywood Flops of Year 2011

The high expectations of “Bheja Fry” were also ruined in “Bheja Fry 2”. Vinay pathak’s perfect comic timing was not able to hold onto the audiences, and the theatres went empty. “Bheja Fry” set the road for small budget films in Bollywood but was not able to maintain the pathway for itself with “Bheja Fry 2”. The only feel good factor of the film was Vinay Pathak. His other flick, “Challo Dilli”, produced by our very own Lara Dutta also smashed the expectations of movie lovers, rather than box office records.

7. Force (John Abraham, Genelia Dsouza)

Directed by Nishikant Kamat

Biggest Bollywood Flops of Year 2011One more disaster to the Box Office was John’s “Force”. This action packed, romantic creation (which is actually the forte of many of our Hindi Films), proved to be one of the biggest flops of the year 2011. The heavy drama Action sequences and the breezy romantic moment in between were a boring mix for the viewers. Force was nothing but a forceless creation that gave the viewers no reason to enter the theatres.

8. Mausam (Shahid Kapur, Sonam Kapoor)

Directed by Pankaj kapur.Biggest Bollywood Flops of Year 2011Well Pankaj Kapur is a name that needs no introduction in the field of acting. The famous tele series of his, “Office Office” was made into a 3 hour film in the year 2011, but failed to live upto its own level of expectation. Pankaj kapur also debuted as a director this year with “Mausam”, starring Shahid kapur and Sonam Kapoor. Amidst a lot of speculation and hype, it failed to impress the audience. A long and dragging screenplay did not earn the director and the film much appreciation, though it could have been made into a better film. The pressure on Shahid, of making his father’s Directorial debut a hit, was visible in his performance throughout the film.

9. Tell Me O Khuda (Esha Deol, Vinod Khanna, Rishi Kapoor, Arjan Bajwa)

Directed by Hema Malini.Biggest Bollywood Flops of Year 2011Another actor who directed a movie, thinking that it would give a boost to her daughter’s sinking career was Hema Malini and yes we are talking about, “Tell Me O Khuda”. Esha Deol’s come back film after her lip surgery, has presumably cut short her career almost permanently, I guess. A perfect example of bad writing and worse direction, “Tell Me O Khuda” will be taught in Film Schools, as an example of what should be avoided, as a film maker.

10. Naughty@40 (Govinda, Uvika Chaudhary)

Directed by Jagmohan Mundhra.Biggest Bollywood Flops of Year 2011Even Govinda tried his luck once again this year in “Naughty @40” and “Loot”. It would not be a surprise if you end up thinking, when did these get released? Well nobody knew except Govinda himself. Even we do not have much to say about the two respective movies starring the street dancer, Govinda, except never dare to watch them.

11. Desi Boyz (Akshay Kumar, John Abraham, Deepika Padukone, Chitrangada Singh)

Directed by Rohit Dhawan.

Biggest Bollywood Flops of Year 2011

Last but not the least in the list comes, “Desi Boyz”. Akshay Kumar and John Abraham’s jodi came together once again after, “Garam Masala”. Another extension of vulgar comedy, “Desi Boyz” thankfully did not do well at the Box Office. Akshya Kumar’s senseless dialogue delivery and John’s expressionless emotions resulted into a baseless film. “Desi Boyz” is only a stage for showing off the skin, does not matter which, male or female.

Apart from these there have been many more tiny bits that could be proudly pronounced as Flops. I hope I did not miss out on something really unbearable. 2012 is on the threshold and we definitely wish to see some good films this year. Fewer Flops and more Hits!
