With 'Navratri' around the corner, the country is once again in the grip of the Garba. Nine consecutive Garba nights full of color and splendor, colorful clothes and turbans, much awaited after a 2 year COVID hiatus is in the offing and residents of Rajasthan and its neighboring Gujarat are waiting in anticipation.

The demand for new dresses, traditional wear for both men and women and Turbans for men has reached a high note. The Gujarati Kathiyawadi dressing style is the flavor of the season as per our market study – Kathiyawadi dresses and the Kathiyawadi Turban are being preferred and in demand. The shopkeepers are excited with the increasing demand of the various patterns and designs of turbans this year and apart from catering to the demand from the local market and elsewhere in the state, the shopkeepers are purchasing Turbans from towns in Gujarat, Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad.

In a conversation with Udaipur Times, Vijay Kumar, one of the shopkeeper that runs his Turban shop in the walled city area said that seeing the increasing demand of Turbans this year, he has bought Turbans costing between Rs. 100 to Rs. 5000. He said that this year women and children are also expected to sport the Turban.

Another shopkeeper, Wasim Akram said that he has different varieties of Jodhpuri, Mewadi Turbans known in local language as Saafas, with mirror work on it.  Apart from these the folding Turban are more in demand.

Turbans in the Indian society, apart from being the religious headgear of the Sikhs, are also revered in other communities, since they are a symbol of grandeur, respect, age and position since the ancient times.
