The warm aroma of Sheer Khurma, a traditional festive sweet dish started flowing over the Bohra colonies in Udaipur as the community is preparing for Eid Ul Fitr tomorrow on Tuesday, August 30 th, 2011. Bohras to celebrate Eid Tomorrow Ending the month long fasting and prayers and Bohras will give grand adieu to the holiest month of Islamic Calendar by giving alms on the eve of Eid, the last fast of the Holy Ramadan. Shopping new attires, cleaning and decorating homes and putting heena, preparing for sewiyyas and sheerkhurma, the Bohrawari is white washed to welcome Eid tomorrow. Bohra devotees will observe mass prayer tomorrow; known as Khutba. It will be performed early morning and then will begin the day of celebrations, wishes and series of celebrative feasts. The strong community comprising of about17000-20000 people in Udaipur has strong cultural and traditional practices many unlike the mainstream Muslims of the city. For instance Bohras follow misri (Egyptian calendar) for all the events of the year while majority of Muslim sects still make decisions after sighting the moon. UdaipurTimes.com wishes all our dedicated Bohra readers and friends “Eid Mubarak”. We would like to wish our readers in Middle Eastern countries of Kuwait, UAE, Qatar, Oman and Saudi Arabia who by some reason could not be able to visit their home in Udaipur. Eid Mubarak once again!
