In an official meeting on Friday, several government authorities including the Municipal Corporation, the Police Department as well as various religious and social groups have extended a helping hand in managing the whole procession with dedication.

The Rath-Yatra laden with huge chariots followed by colorfully clad horse carts will start from Jagdish Temple at around mid-afternoon of 3rd July and will eventually turn into a large vibrant procession which will pass through a large chunk of the city.

The legendary Rath-Yatra, which originates from the holy temple of Lord Jagganath at Puri, Orissa is a festival that is extended to the entire country and even to other parts of world where an Indian community exists in large numbers.

Every year in mid-summer of Hindu date Ashaad Shukla Dwitya of Vikram Samvat which falls on 3rd of July this year, thousands of devotees will pull the huge chariot loaded with ornaments and idols of Lord Jagganath, Balabhadra and Subadhra in a long procession. (more details here)

Though the centre of attraction is Orissa, many other Indian cities also have their own extraordinary programs on this day. Udaipur happens to be one of those cities where the Rath-Yatra is well-known and is considered one of the biggest religious events.

Undoubtedly, the main attraction of the event will be a gigantic chariot called the RATH. The Rath is approximately 15 feet long, 8 feet high and weighs 800 kg. It also consists of approximately 50 kg of silver along with other metals.

The Rath Nirman Samiti, which has been organizing the event for the last 11 years, originally started with 7 people from Udaipur. These initial members were Dalchand Charidar, Giriraj Jeengar, Gopalsingh Pawar,Damodar Diwakar, Bhanvribai, Harishankar Sharma and Premdas Vaishnav. In the year 2000, these members finally decided to organize a mass procession of the Rath-Yatra in Udaipur which now starts from Jagdish Temple each year.

At present, this group has 350 members (devotees) who contribute with utmost dedication to make this sacred event successful each year.
