Dedication of Stone Lamp at Sree Ayyappa Temple

A traditional stone lamp of six feet height with five layers has been consecrated at Sree Ayyappa Temple, Meera Marg, Udaipur which will be formally dedicated to Lord Ayyappa on the auspicious day of Painkuni Uthram, the birth day of the Lord on April 5, 2012 at 7 p.m.

The stone lamp was brought from Kanyakumari district at the initiative of a devotee, Shri P.K. Ramachandran to fulfill the aspiration of hundreds of devotees.

It may be mentioned here that stone lamps of varying heights are part of all South Indian temples and it was a long felt need of Sree Ayyappa Temple, Udaipur to install the same to keep the tradition alive. Stone lamps are carved by artisans at a tiny town, Thakle in Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu.

Painkuni Uthram celebration on Thursday begins with Ganapati Homam, in the morning at around 6.00 am followed by Usha Puja, various Abhisheks, Holy Bhagwat Parayan during day time and in the evening, Deeparadhana, the dedication of stone lamp and Bow Songs (an age-old folk songs program in praise of Lord Ayyappa) and finally Maha Prasadam from 8.30 p.m. onwards.
