Endocrinology Head at RNT medical college, Professor (Dr.) D C Sharma has been appointed as the member of the national committee of Indian Thyroid Society for the year 2013-14. He addressed 10^th Annual Conference, ITSCON- 2013, of Indian Thyroid Society in Bangalore today. In the conference, directions for the management of thyroid were released.

Stating the problems faced by women due to thyroid instability, Dr Sharma said that it is the biggest reason of miscarriage and changes in menstruation cycle. He said that preliminary symptoms are always ignored which leads to bigger problems. If checked at initial stages, such problems can be cured by thyroid replacement.

According to the direction released in the conference, Hypothyroid could result in cardiovascular diseases and hyper tension. Doctors must check the levels of thyroid before any medication to the patients of Displidemiya. It was also suggested that doctors must ask for testing TSH levels during first antenatal visit of pregnant women.

President of FOGS Bangalore, Dr. Hema Diwakar said that depression is also one of the diseases related to endocrine dysfunction. She also emphasized that for the good health of mother and child, women must go through thyroid tests.
