Introduction to Urdu Poetry and Language Interpretations | Shaam e Shayri
Sham-e-Shayri, an introductory platform for interpretation of Urdu Poetry is being conducted at Vidhya Bhawan Shiksha Sandarbh Kendra, Udaipur on Friday, 8 February.
The program, which will be conducted by Hamida Banu, will begin at 6:30pm on Friday, 8 February.  Entry to the event is free.
Hamida Banu, who holds a Adeeb Kamil in Urdu from the Jamia Aligarh University and has taught Urdu script and poetry for over 3 decades in the United States and India, will introduce the participants to the depths of Urdu poetry in this brief session.
This session is open to all interested in learning more about the depth of Urdu poetry and language as well.  Further to this event, a month long interactive session is being planned from 11 February at Vidhya Bhawan Shiksha Sandarbh Kendra, Udaipur.

Language has no barriers and as far as Urdu is concerned it is globally recognised as one of the richest languages in terms of its influence on countries, communities, prose, poetry and daily use.
The depth of the Urdu language can be gauged from the vast treasure of poetry in the form of Ghazals, Nazms, Marsiya, Qasida, Naat, Qawwali and many other off shoots of Urdu poetry.
The course, which will be introduced on 8 February and commence on 11 February (subject to minimum threshold participation), is designed for people who enjoy listening to Urdu poetry, but are often at a loss, when it comes to understanding the different forms, the vocabulary and knowing more about the poet and the genre.  We will study the works of masters such as Meer, Ghalib, Ustad Zauq, Jigar, Faiz. Sahir and others.

10 sessions in all, beginning on 11 February will be conducted over a period of 20 days.  Classes will be held in the evening hours so that all interested can attend and will be organised on alternate days to accomodate domestic and professional routines.
Participants will be able to increase their vocabulory and deepen their understanding of selected works.
All those who wish to enroll for this month long session, will be registered at the venue itself on 8 February and registrations will close on 9 February and the classes are free of charge.   A nominal charge will, however be taken for any material which is distributed for reference.  Registrations can be done by calling UdaipurTimes on +91 9001590203 OR Farhat Hussain on +91 9929903331.
