In the three days drive for popularising Calligraphy as an art form, Anis Siddiqui, famous Calligrapher gave a live demonstration of the art at Fateh Sagar Pal and Jagdish Chowk.

The event was organised with the support of Banayan Roots earlier this evening. They will organize a three day workshop, and exhibition, and screen a documentary on the gradually dying Indian Calligraphy Art, ‘Tears of Dancing Letters’.

Today, on first day of promotional drive, Anis Siddiqui made a few Calligraphy pieces both at Jagdish Chowk and Fateh Sagar Pal at 4 pm and 6 pm respectively, while from 19^th onwards, he will be teaching this art in a three day workshop organised at Banayan Roots. He will exhibit some of his finest art works from 19^th-20^th March from 11am to 5pm.

According to Siddiqui, Calligraphy is one of the most important Indian Arts which originated from some of the earliest cave paintings. “The very first copy of Indian Constitution was also calligraphed in ink”, added Siddiqui. Calligraphy was the only source of producing documents 500 years ago when printing press was not invented.

Anis Siddiqui has dedicated his life to Calligraphy and he has been teaching the art regularly since 1984. His skills have won him a number of awards and laurels; most prominent among them are National Award in 1984, Kala Seva, Ludhiana conferred him with a title of ‘Father of Calligraphy’ in 2004 and Urdu Academy, Delhi honoured him in 2006.

He has advised, instructed and reviewed around 5000 pages of Calligraphy. Also, he has visited nearly 100 cities in 19 states for the promotion of Calligraphy.

Jayesh Mohta, Founder of Banyan Roots informed, “To promote our film and to give real taste of beautiful art of calligraphy to people, we are doing an exhibition of calligraphy of legendary work by Anis Siddiqui on 19th and 20th march 11am – 5pm, and to Spread the awareness about this ancient art form and to allow people to encounter this beauty of strokes in real, we are hosting a workshop of calligraphy on 19th and 20th march, from 10 am to 11 am”.

On 19^th and 20^th March, exhibition will be organised from 11am to 5pm.
