Day2 at the Udaipur Architecture Festival has culminated the first and largest online International Architecture Festival at Udaipur.  With many more such episodes to follow the short and exciting first season of the Udaipur Architecture Festival has come to an end after two delightful days.

We bring you the glimpses of the final day of the UAF2020:

  • The city of Udaipur is known for it’s rich culture and beauty. Our very own and part of the UAF 2020 team; Ar. Amit Gaurav took the participants through the streets, courtyards, bazaars, palaces, havelis, lakes, temples and forts, that all combine to make our city the heart of the Mewar Kingdom. Boasting it’s architectural marvels that have been passed down through generations and are now a gift from the Rajputana rulers, the beauty of Udaipur will leave you awestruck. When the world has paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this virtual tour was a combined effort between the team and technology to allow you to experience the city from the comfort of your homes.

  • Paul Jackson continued to charm and intrigue us with his skills on paper fold. Creating forms of all kinds and bringing life to a two-dimensional surface, he gave terrific tips and a step by step guide that can help give our thoughts a tangible character. He once again proved that nothing beats the skill of craftmanship and the art created by our bare hands.

  • Ar. Anna Heringer is known around the globe for her approach and sensibility towards sustainability and design for all. She talked about the scope in use of natural building materials and the impact they can have in making a better tomorrow. She explained that the challenge isn’t in discovering new materials but if we are able to use our existing resources to their utmost potential. Each of her projects is driven by availability of local materials and upliftment of the community involved. One step by us is maybe just a little bit, but every effort towards saving mother earth counts. Her emphasis on the use of correct technology and the inclusiveness of natural materials influences us to rethink our role as not just designers but also as inhabitants of this planet we call home. If we are to tell you Anna’s ideology in one line, it would be Sustainability equals beauty.

  • Ar. Dean D’cruz is the co-founder of the award-winning firm; Mozaic, Goa. He is an advocate for change, sustainability, local materials and craftmanship. Innovating and looking at each design with a new and personalised approach, Dean shares with us his exciting journey of growth. India is a developing nation but also home to a lot of indigenous tribes and people, he aims to reach out to the unheard and fulfil their needs by reinterpreting traditional architecture. Goa just like a lot of other states in India attracts tourists throughout the year, he emphasises on the need of providing greater benefits to the host population and after that to tourism development. Agriculture is the backbone of India and as development encroaches into the native lands, we need to take measures such as green urban inserts that balance the biodiversity of our cities. Dean is doing his part in protecting the nature, this talk will surely inspire you to do yours.

For the festival finale, UAF had three architects who are following their heart in a world where we often only make decisions based on logic. Arjan Dev Singh, Gaurav Lamba and V. Girish sum up the entire festival with music, poetry and comedy; all you need to do is sit back and relax.
