Udaipur Celebrated World Environment Day

On 5th June, 2011, the citizens of Udaipur celebrated world Environment Day. Various members of the city contributed to the environmental effort through a number of activities; from ordinary citizens to entire organisations taking responsibility and playing their parts in improving the environmental situation of Udaipur by conducting cycling events, plantations, lake cleaning etc.

 

On 5th June, 2011, the citizens of Udaipur celebrated World Environment Day. Various members of the city contributed to the environmental effort through a number of activities; from ordinary citizens to entire organisations taking responsibility and playing their parts in improving the environmental situation of Udaipur by conducting cycling events, plantations, lake cleaning etc.

First, a cycle rally was conducted by the joint efforts of the Forest Department of Udaipur, the District Environment Committee and the Mohan Lal Sukhadia University. People from all over the city started from six different places in the city and ended up at Gulab Bagh. There the rally become a mass meeting which was addressed by Dr. N.C. Jain. This event was also attended by the District Collector Hemant Gera, the Municipal Corporation Chairman Rajni Dangi, MLSU Vice Chancellor I.V Trivedi and Prince Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar. Nukkad Natak and roller skating were also conducted during this event which concluded with the prize distribution ceremony.

The ordinary citizens of the city also took the initiative of improving Udaipur’s environmental scenario by organizing their own events. A group of people gathered at Chandpol today to purify the water from Lake Pichola which has been contaminated as a result of the pollution in the lake. Despite the scorching heat of the afternoon, a number of citizens actively took part in this event and made this Environment Day a memorable day of their lives.

Another rally was be organized today around the Fateh Sagar lake. As Environment Day has fallen on a Sunday this year,many people participated in this cycling event today.

It is encouraging to see that understanding and concern for the environment is growing in the minds of the citizens of Udaipur today. Hopefully, this trend will continue to grow and the environmental situation of Udaipur will dramatically improve in the coming years.
