Once again, visitors to the City Palace will get an opportunity to view the overwhelming collection of thousands of rare photographs capturing the reign of Mewar. The exceptional photo gallery, Long Exposure: The Camera at Udaipur 1857-1957 which was closed for public is now being re-opened with more dynamic add-ons.

According to the official blog of Eternal Mewar, the inauguration of the collection will take place on 30th May at The Bhagwat Prakash Photo Galley by Udaipur District Collector Vikas Bhale.

Long Exposure: The Camera at Udaipur 1857-1957 was first launched in March 2009 exhibiting a large collection of photographs and work, according to a story published in Forbes India, a collection of more than 18000 photos were estimated in 2009.

From portraits to hand painted photographs, Carte-de-Visite, Albumen print to Gelatin Silver print, the collection will present the time of Maharana Shambu Singh (r. 1861-1874) to Maharana Bhagwat Singh (r. 1955-1984). The pictures are a work of a number of photographers.

The story also reveals that the earliest camera Obscura, an optical device that preceded the modern day camera was used in Udaipur in 1818. However, the first camera reached Calcutta (present day Kolkata) in 1840.

The treasure of Long Exposure will re-open for public once again.
