Wanna have a cup of coffee?

“I need a coffee break”, “Anyone coming for a coffee”, “You like your coffee hot or cold”, “With icecream, without icecream” “Sometimes a cup of coffee with friends is all you need”…so many things where coffee is the main element.

Coffee is known to invite more friends than tea. This could be because coffee is the best excuse to move out for. Tea is one of the most common drinks used in Indian households, whereas coffee has mostly been like ‘once in a while’ kind of thing. The various flavours in coffee including the froth that settles on the lips or above the lip line do not come up that well when made at home. Even if you make a cold coffee in a mixer, the froth is not as rewarding as you get in a coffee shop. Plus, waiting for a coffee and then enjoying the final product without putting in hard work is what we need every once in a while. Basically coffee comes as a real break time.

Coffee also has a number of health benefits.

  • It boosts your work-out sessions. A cup of black coffee before work-out increases adrenaline levels in the body which help us prepare for physical exertions.
  • Coffee is also known to help in weight loss. Since it contains magnesium and potassium, it acts as insulin regulating sugar levels and reducing cravings for sweet food.
  • A moderate intake of coffee helps improve mental alertness.
  • Coffee reduces risk of cancer, stroke, Parkinson’s disease and since it contains antioxidants it protects your body against free radicals.
  • It is also known to reduce levels of Type II diabetes.
  • Coffee also protects brain. The high caffeine levels reduce the risk of Alzheimer disease.
  • It also brightens mood and helps fight depression.

The important point is that coffee should not be consumed beyond a certain point. More than 4 cups of coffee a day may cause certain harms like insomnia and restlessness. Pregnant women should not drink more than a cup a day. For people suffering from high cholesterol, filtered coffee is the right choice.
