To honor World Environment Day, June 8th Shakti Sunday offered a wide array of presentations on “Humanity in Nature, Nature in Humanity” highlighting the many facets of those relationships.
The Fateh Sagar Pal venue was festively adorned with colorful works by the town’s premier artists who also invited all the visiting children to create eco-themed wall paintings of their own.
Besides the increasingly polished “Udaipur’s Got Talent!” acts, the evening show offered a diversity of energetic performances ranging from skate dancing by Sahil Skating College students and Maya Gahlot’s splendid traditional dance to melodious sets by Dipika Maheswari, Gauri Shankar Sharma and the Surveer Singh group.
Rama Singh Bharat introduced “Jazbaa”, her inspiring short film on Rajasthan’s only female auto-rickshaw driver, as well as Jazbaa herself who spoke of her life and totally charmed the audience.
Renowned artist-activist Meena Baya showed “Colours in Jail”, a moving presentation on her prison art classes, which stunned the crowd with the quality of the prisoners’ work.
Rajputana Society of Natural History rep, Narayan Singh traced the history of threats to our air, climate and water and showed what ordinary citizens could do.
The night ended with the usual stage explosion of youthful dancers and an invitation to reconvene on June 22nd to commemorate World Music Day. Everyone was also reminded to follow Shakti Sunday highlights and developments on their website at facebook.com/shaktisundays.
