An awareness program was held at Psychiatry Department of RNT Medical College on the occasion of World Schizophrenia Day. Experts gave important information about the schizophrenia which is a kind mental disorder. Dr. Sushil Kherada, HoD of Department of Psychiatry addressed the doctors and medical assistants about the disease and its affect on individual’s personal and social life. “There are nearly 1 Crore people in India who are affected by schizophrenia. Many of the patient’s relatives tend to go to traditional healers other than a qualified doctors”, said Dr. Kherada.
The illness is commonly attached to superstitious beliefs in India, although Schizophrenia is simply a mental disorder which could be genetic or due to stress, social or even environmental reasons. World Schizophrenia Day is marked every year on 24
th May to boost awareness and knowledge about the illness. With the help of detailed presentation, Dr. Kherada shared important points of cure, awareness and causes of the sickness, schizophrenia.
