Doctors advise adopting caution against changing season and fluctuating temperatures
Udaipur, November 9, 2024 - With the change in the season, reports say that now the number of patients with dengue, chikungunya, and viral infections has relatively dropped. However, those affected have still got no relief from the joint pain in their body, an after-effect of the seasonal diseases that have inflicted the population the past two months.
Doctors are cautioning to be alert even though the cases of dengue and chikungunya are decreasing. They say certain areas still are infested with mosquito so citizens have to be cautious. With change in season, there is also the risk of other infections.
In chikungunya while most symptoms last a week or so, joint pain can persist for months in some cases. Although this disease is rarely fatal, its symptoms can be severely debilitating. The medicine department and OPD in MB Hospital, Udaipur, are seeing almost 70 per cent of patients with joint pain.
Both dengue and chikungunya are spread by Aedes mosquitoes and can lead to severe symptoms, including high fever, intense joint pain, muscle pain, headaches and fatigue. While dengue often leads to high fever, intense muscle pain (often called "breakbone fever"), and can cause complications like dengue hemorrhagic fever or dengue shock syndrome, chikungunya primarily affects the joints, leading to severe and sometimes prolonged joint pain.
Udaipur has recently led in dengue cases in the region, with a significant number of patients requiring hospital care. Increased infection rates have led to extended medical facilities and resources to manage the influx of patients.
The rise in cases coincides with seasonal shifts, where fluctuating temperatures create breeding conditions for mosquitoes.
