National Eye Donation Fortnight is being celebrated throughout the country from August 25 – September 8, 2011 to commemorate Eye Donation Campaign and its importance for the visually impaired.

 
National Eye Donation Fortnight is being celebrated throughout the country from August 25 – September 8, 2011 to commemorate Eye Donation Campaign and its importance for the visually impaired. Alakh Nayan Mandir Eye Institute, an eye care organization working for eradication of blindness in this region is organizing numerous programmes during this fortnight in association with various schools, colleges, institutions and commercials organization to motivate the society to donate eyes by pledging for the same. Netradaan- Mahadaan enchants Fateh Sagar In this continuum, a “Run for Sight” was organized by Alakh Nayan Mandir on Sunday, 28 August 2011 at Fateh Sagar, in which hundreds of Udaipurites from various communities, organizations, schools, hospitals participated. The ‘Run’ was flagged off at 7.00 am near Moti Magri gate by eminent physician and President of Eye Bank Society of Udaipur, Dr Arun Bordia. Dr. J P Atrey Secretary Medical Practitioner’s Society, Udaipur, Members of Eye Bank Society, ophthalmologists from RNT Medical College and many other eminent personalities of Udaipur participated in the run. Students from MMPS, Sunbeam School and Kalptaru Nursing College also participated enthusiastically in the run and strengthened the fact that youth has got the power to bring about change in the social thought process. On this occasion at the end of the run, the budding Magician Master Bhoomik performed some magic tricks and extended his support in spreading the message of eye donation. The Staff and Management of Alakh Nayan Mandir including Dr.L. S. Jhala – Director, Dr. Laxmi Jhala-Executive Trustee, Community Programmes Incharge Ms. Meenakshi Chundawat and Prof. J N Kaviraj actively participated in the run. Dr. Laxmi Jhala said, “The aim behind this event was to recall and reiterate the importance of Eye Donation amongst the general masses, so that eyes of a deceased person could give light to two blind persons. At the end of the run many participants pledged to donate their eyes.”
