Water/Fluid retention refers to excessive fluid buildup in the circulatory system, body tissues or cavities in the body.

There are many causes of water retention but there are few dietary causes that become the main concerns. Some of the reasons are:

  • Too much of salt consumption
  • Excessive consumption of high sodium foods
  • Low intake of Thiamine, Vitamin B5, B6, Calcium and Magnesium
  • Low intake of water.

If the symptoms start to occur in the body, the following measures can be taken to correct Water Retention. They are as follows:

  • Take Potassium rich foods like broccoli, peas, potatoes, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, winter squash, kiwi, bananas, citrus fruits and apricots etc., as potassium plays a diuretic role.
  • Avoid processed, preserved foods, canned foods, bakery products, salty snacks etc.
  • Consume low salt diet.
  • Do regular exercise.

Following these measures, water retention can be cured. It is always advisable to visit a doctor once before the problem becomes incurable.
