Patients suffering from mental illnesses such as depression and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) can now receive prompt and painless treatment through Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (RTMS) therapy. This innovative therapy utilizes a simple tingling machine, eliminating the need for electric shock therapy. The RTMS machine has been installed in the Psychiatric Department of MB (Maharana Bhupal) Hospital in Udaipur, following its successful implementation in Jaipur.

The RTMS machine, which costs up to 58 Lakh, offers significant advantages over previous treatment methods. Previously, patients had to endure an 8-hour fast for tests and spend 15 days in the hospital for the entire process before receiving electric shock therapy. However, with the introduction of this new technology, patients can be discharged within half an hour after their appointment in the outpatient department (OPD).

Dr. Suresh Gochar, the Head of the Psychiatric Department, explained that mental illnesses often result from imbalances in Neurotransmitters such as Serotonin, Dopamine, and Norepinephrine in the brain. The RTMS therapy uses a magnetic coil to emit magnetic rays, which help rebalance the affected areas. Each session takes approximately 20 minutes, and patients typically require 10 to 20 such sessions.

This breakthrough in mental health treatment offers hope for improved outcomes and a more convenient experience for patients, providing them with a faster and painless path to recovery.
