We all know that very soon, India’s most reputed business school IIM (Indian Institute of Management) is coming up in Udaipur. The reactions from people are noticeable; high expectations are over flowing, it seems like a God of MBA is coming to Udaipur. In fact, it’s not even wrong saying them God of MBA in India. After all they have nurtured many students to the highest corporate positions globally, but are we over expecting from IIM Udaipur? There are so many questions hitting my mind since I read this news. I am pretty confused so thought why don’t I share my views and ask you to come up with your opinions. After all, where we get a platform to talk about such things openly? How will be the relation of IIM Udaipur and the Udaipurites? Are we prepared to welcome such a respectable and high demand institute? Is our city is technically and socially ready to keep that level of standard which other IIM institutes located in India’s various cities? Psychologically, we carry a different, over sized impression with the name IIM. Rather than taking it as an institute we hopefully think it will change Udaipur and our everyday lifestyle. That’s in fact a good sign to grow our general thinking which somehow will affect our life style positively. We have dozens of MBA schools opened in last few years. I bet that every student studying in it had wished at least once in his/her lifetime to study in IIM, when majority of them never ever visited any IIM campus in India. How the reaction is going to be when these students can at least see what and how IIM looks when it will start functioning in Udaipur? Again psychologically it will either positive or negative. MBA aspiring students will get close chance to make their dream come true and those who completed their MBA will feel depressed and too late to make their dream come true. Here, I am neglecting the actual entrance exams and all legal procedure to get admission in IIM. Whatever, if nothing will change socially, but economically there are many things which will keep the city locals busy in coping up with the level of standards, like real estate groups and those who own a land near IIM campus going to be constructed in Balicha, suburb of Udaipur are jumping in joy. Private coaching classes and self proclaimed MBA gurus are dreaming too high to fetch a real cash from students who come from the neighborhood areas of banswara, chittorgarh, salumber and kankroli . They will be easy catch for such private class owners including locals. What do you think about it? Is IIM is so important for Udaipurites?
