16 Hours of Fast and Power Cut, Muslims Slam Electricity Board

Acting on behalf of the Muslim community of Udaipur, members of the Muslim Mahasabha urged the State government to restore proper and regular power supply in the month of Ramzaan.

Members of Muslim Mahasabha today, in an open letter to the Chief Minister, demanded that the Muslim Community who is celebrating the Ramzaan month, which is majorly about day long fasting, are upset with the untimely power cut in the city and due to that they are facing difficulties.

Mustafa Sheikh of the Mahasabha said “lame excuses are being given in return of complains to the officials of the electricity department. They say that due to scanty rainfall we running low of the electricity”.

He said that, “Department should make an alternative to sort the problem. He also said that there is no definite time for power cut, sometimes it is for two hours and sometimes even for four hours. He told media that we demand the Chief Minister to order no power cuts in the Holy month of “Ramzaan”

“This time fasts are almost 16 hours long, we don’t even drink water, and over this if lights are cut off then it becomes all the more unbearable,” said another activist of the Mahasabha.

Apart from Muslim Sunni and Shia groups, Udaipur also has a good population of Dawoodi Bohras who are also celebrating the month of Ramzaan and complaining on the same issue of untimely electricity cutoff.

“Not only Muslims, every community in the city is aggressively insisting that the Electricity department must sort out this problem,” said Mustafa Sheikh.

The Muslim Mahasabha presented the letter to the ADM(City), and he assured to inform the higher authorities to take cognizance of this problem.
